Eligibility
All farmers including share croppers and tenant farmers growing notified crops in the notified areas are eligible under this scheme
How to get crop insurance?
Loanee Farmers (Compulsory Coverage): All the farmers availing seasonal agriculture operations (SAO) loans from financial institutes (Loanee farmers / KCC holders) for the notified crop would be covered compulsorily.
Non-Loanee Farmers: Farmers not availing loan can also cover the notified crop through contacting Bank or Authorised Insurance Company agents with the following documents
- Proposal form, Aadhar Card, Copy of land records, Copy of Bank savings account details, Insurance Premium, Crop Sowing certificate.
Coverage of Risks: Following stages of the crop and risks leading to crop loss are covered under the scheme.
- Prevented Sowing/ Planting Risk: Insurance Coverage to farmers shall be provided in case of widespread incidence of eligible risk's affecting crops in more than 75% of area sown in a notified unit at early stage leading to total loss of crop or the farmers are not in a position to either sow or transplant the crop.
- Standing Crop (Sowing to Harvesting) - Comprehensive risk insurance is provided to cover yield losses due to non-preventable risks viz. Drought, dry spells, flood, inundation, pests and diseases, landslides, natural fire and lightening, storm, hailstorm, cyclone, typhoon, tempest, hurricane and tornado.
- Post-Harvest Losses - Coverage is available only up to a maximum period of two weeks from the harvesting for those crops which are allowed to dry in cut and spread condition in the field after harvesting against specific perils o f c yc lo n e, c yc lo n ic rains and unseasonal rains. (last date by which harvesting should have been done is mentioned in seasonality discipline)
- Localized Calamities - Loss/damage resulting from occurrence of identified localized risks of hailstorm, landslide and inundation affecting isolated farms in the notified area.
